Our conversation today with Nancy Horton and her son Chris, from Horton's Nursery and Garden Center gives the history of their business, which started in 1976 as a wholesale operation out of their garage, and later expanded to include a full-service nursery and garden center.

Chris talks about growing up in the nursery and learning about landscaping and plant care, the current trend of houseplants, and the benefits of having greenery indoors. They also discuss the different products they offer, such as hardscaping supplies, a variety of pots, and hydroponic supplies. They both explain the benefits of their re-potting station that's offered to customers.

Last year, Horton's Nursery & Garden Center began offering events in the greenhouse space vacated by plants that needed more overnight warmth. One of those events has continued this year and has become quite successful. "Thrifting Days" features people selling their treasures as well as local artisans and crafters. They are also hosting a Galentine's Shopping Event on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from noon til 4pm. Nancy & Chris give details for these events as well as hints of things they're planning for the future.

Stay in the know about upcoming sales and events by following them on Facebook. Horton's Nursery & Garden Center is located at 2731 Front Royal Pike (522) in Winchester. Their winter hours are Thursday/Friday/Saturday from 9am - 5pm. You can reach them via phone: 540-869-2115
